Kieran McKenna has recently been linked with the vacant manager position at Rangers.

Ipswich Town look to have put a poor start to the season behind them in recent matches, taking 10 points from their last four Championship outings.

Talented operators such as Jaden Philogene and Jack Clarke have started flexing their muscles on the rest of the division, scoring nine goals between them at this moment in time.

Although clubs such as Coventry City and Middlesbrough have been the early pace setters in the second-tier, there is a growing sense that Ipswich are beginning to get into a rhythm that could be nigh on impossible to break out of.

Once thing that could disrupt the Tractor Boys’ season though would be losing their manager. McKenna has recently been handed the Championship’s Manager of the Month award for September, which highlights how well he is performing from the sidelines.

Speaking on Sky Sports, reporter Gordon Duncan revealed that the Northern Irishman was on Rangers’ list of manager candidates, following their decision to sack Russell Martin after a dreadful start to the season.

McKenna's departure would be a nightmare scenario for the Suffolk side, given how long the manager has been in his post and could potentially put a massive dent in their promotion charge.

However, Football League World’s Ipswich Town fan pundit, Adam Wilkin, believes that the Tractor Boys have nothing to fear and there is no chance McKenna decides to switch Portman Road for Ibrox.

“There is absolutely no chance Kieran McKenna goes to Rangers,” stated Adam.

“Given that he has rejected approaches from Chelsea, Brighton and some of the other Premier League clubs in previous years.

“He is committed to Ipswich Town and is still building something here.

“So I think that one is an absolute non-starter there. I don't see any reason why he would leave Ipswich Town to anyone at this point in time, let alone go north of the border up into Scotland.”

Rangers are a club steeped in history and enjoy one of the most passionate fanbases in European football.

Legendary players and managers have belonged to the Ibrox outfit, and joining that list would be an attractive prospect for anybody involved in the game.

However, the Scottish giants have suffered an extremely poor start to the season and are already nine points behind title-favourites Celtic, as well as a further 11 points behind league leaders Hearts.

Therefore, McKenna wouldn’t be entering the job with a chance of winning the league, which is still achievable with Ipswich.

The Northern Irish manager has arguably the best team in the Championship, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them competing for the title come May.

This would reward McKenna with the opportunity to coach in the Premier League once again and fight to keep the Tractor Boys at that level.
