Hansi Flick will once again be without Lamine Yamal when FC Barcelona kick off their 2025/26 UEFA Champions League campaign against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park tonight.

The 18-year-old winger remains sidelined with groin discomfort and is expected to miss the next few matches. In his absence, Flick opted to hand a first start to summer signing Roony Bardghji against Valencia last weekend. The Swedish youngster showed glimpses of promise but was withdrawn at half-time, with Raphinha taking his place.

According to SPORT, Flick is now planning changes to his attacking setup for the UCL opener. Raphinha is expected to take over Yamal’s spot on the right flank, while Marcus Rashford is likely to continue on the left.

The Englishman impressed against Valencia with a lively display and, returning to his homeland, will be eager to perform once more in front of a familiar crowd.

The centre-forward role may also see a rotation. Robert Lewandowski, who scored twice off the bench in the win over Valencia, is in contention to replace Ferran Torres. The Spaniard has started all four matches so far this season, but with Barcelona facing a hectic run of four games in the next 10 days, Flick is expected to freshen up his side.

While Yamal’s creativity and flair will be sorely missed, Flick believes his squad has the depth to cope. Between the form of Lewandowski and Ferran, the leadership of Raphinha, Rashford’s growing influence, and Bardghji’s gradual integration, the German coach has a variety of attacking options at his disposal as Barcelona look to start their European campaign strongly in a tough away venue.
