Charlton Athletic have been backed to keep Lyndon Dykes at The Valley beyond his current contract, but his future remains undecided for now.

Charlton Athletic must decide whether to keep Lyndon Dykes beyond his current short-term contract as the summer transfer window approaches.

The Addicks are likely to obtain Championship survival, and the striker has contributed to those efforts by notching three goals and three assists in 15 appearances since joining from Birmingham City in January.

Nathan Jones' men have failed to win since their 1-0 triumph over Middlesbrough on 11 March, but their 1-1 draw at Watford on Easter Monday moved them eight points clear of the relegation zone with just five games remaining.

Charlton can take a significant step towards Championship survival by defeating Preston North End at The Valley this Saturday.

Dykes' most recent goal for the Addicks arrived in Good Friday's 2-1 defeat to Bristol City, which witnessed Roy Hodgson's return to the dugout.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Millwall and Leicester City have both eyed summer moves for Dykes, who is currently set to be available on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Football League World asked our Charlton fan pundit, Chris Woodward, whether he thought the Scotland international would stay at The Valley.

Woodward said: "For me, I think Lyndon Dykes stays at Charlton past this summer, but I wouldn't confidently say that. When you look at his underlying output figures in goals and assists over the last few years, they don't look that impressive, and would likely put clubs further up the pyramid off him.

"Likewise, any club further down the footballing pyramid with interest, we should be easily able to financially outcompete if we want to re-sign him, which I think we would want to do.

"Dykes has a limited skill set and isn't exactly at the most favourable of ages, but it's that experience, and what he does bring to the side in terms of his work rate, physicality in duels, and link-up play, which fits Nathan Jones' style, and there's not many managers who would get the best out of him, which Jones definitely has done.

"Obviously, if Dykes has an exceptional World Cup, Jones wants to evolve his style of football, and give our younger target men, (Miles) Leaburn and (Micah) Mbick, more chances, or even if Dykes himself wants guaranteed football and a long contract, there's definitely no guarantee he will be here next season.

"It's all up in the air, so anything can happen. I'd lean towards him staying, but it wouldn't shock me if he did move elsewhere this summer."

Dykes has never been overly prolific, and hasn't managed double figures since scoring 12 goals in the 2020/21 season for his former club, Queens Park Rangers.

However, as particularly illustrated by his international career with Scotland, the 30-year-old does lead the line well, thanks to his strong hold-up play.

Furthermore, he does notch goals in important moments, which Charlton saw when he scored in a 2-0 triumph over Leicester City in January.
