The Liam Rosenior era gets underway in earnest this evening as Chelsea’s new manager makes his dugout debut against Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup third round. The former Strasbourg boss was signed as Enzo Maresca’s replacement this week, formally getting started on Thursday, and has not had much time at all to work with his new squad before sending them into match action for the first time.

He was bullishly confident in his first press conference, but now has the chance to put his money where his mouth is. Nathan Jones’ Addicks will be no pushovers, though they are not enjoying a vintage campaign either. They sit just five points clear of the Championship relegation zone, and have not won a match since late December. Chelsea’s winless run is actually longer than that, though. They last tasted victory when they beat Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup on December 16.

After holders Crystal Palace were dumped out of the competition by non-league Macclesfield earlier this afternoon, Chelsea will be keen to avoid another ignominious cupset.
