Charlton vs Chelsea – Team News: Rosenior shocks everyone with heavily changed first selection | OneFootball

Chelsea face Charlton at the Valley in just over an hour, and the teams are in!

It’s Liam Rosenior’s first team selection, and we were really curious about what he would go for. Of course he wants to start with a win – but it’s also a cup game against lower league opposition, and the last chance to rotate properly for the whole season, pretty much.

He’s rotated more than we thought.

In goal he goes with Filip Jorgensen, our second choice keeper.

In defence, Josh Acheampong plays at right back, with Benoit Badiashile and Tosin in the middle – a second choice back pair. Jorrel Hato plays in place of the suspended Marc Cucurella.

Rosenior called Moises Caicedo the best midfielder in the world in an interview today, and he’s able to use the former Brighton man freely because he’s suspended for our midweek game.

We were sure we would see Andrey Santos in midfield alongside him, and indeed we do. Not only because Rosenior knows him from Strasbourg, but also because the midfielder did well in the game against Man City a week ago, and then was the fall guy after the red card against Fulham in midweek. Facundo Buonanotte plays in the hole ahead of them.

The front three has Marc Guiu flanked by Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens.

It’s absolutely vital for the team’s spirit, and for Rosenior’s authority, that he starts with a good showing and a win tonight. We hope to see all of these players fighting to impress their coach.

Shim Mheuka isn’t in the squad for today’s game, but he consoled himself by scoring a hattrick for the U21 earlier. He’s available for loan to the right club this month.
