Chelsea 1-2 Sunderland: Late Chemsdine Talbi strike stuns Blues at Stamford Bridge to send Black Cats into second | OneFootball

Chelsea’s four-game winning streak ended with a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland in Saturday’s Premier League encounter.

Enzo Maresca’s side headed into the clash on a high after their 5-1 rout of Ajax in midweek, but the Black Cats proved to be much more formidable opponents.

Sunderland had an early sight of goal through Daniel Ballard as he got on the end of a Bertrand Traore cross, but he was unable to trouble Robert Sanchez with his header.

Having withstood some pressure in the opening exchanges, Chelsea edged ahead in the fourth minute.

Alejandro Garnacho opened his account for Chelsea with a low drive through Robin Roefs’s legs after Pedro Neto set him up.

Given their bright start to the contest, Sunderland would have felt a little hard done by to have gone behind, but continued to give a good account of themselves.

The visitors deservingly got themselves back on level terms midway through the first half.

A long throw from Nordi Mukiele into the Chelsea box caused some chaos, which Wisdom Isidor profited from to score his first away goal of the season.

Isidor had another pop at the Chelsea goal just shy of the half-hour mark, but hit the side netting.

Marc Guiu had been anonymous for large spells of his first Premier League start before he called Roefs into action in the 33rd minute.

Roefs had to be on alert to deny Garnacho and Trevoh Chalobah four minutes apart as Chelsea looked to regain their lead before the half-time whistle, albeit all to no avail.

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea came out on the front foot in search of the game’s second goal, although the hosts remained wary of Sunderland’s threat at the other end.

Neither side could find the breakthrough after 90 minutes, and the clash headed into six additional minutes during which Sunderland silenced Stamford Bridge with a late dagger.

Substitutes Brian Brobbey and Chemsdine Talbi combined to good effect, with the latter finding the bottom right corner with a precise strike to open his Sunderland account.

That proved to be the decisive moment, earning Sunderland their most impressive result since regaining promotion.

Regis Le Bris’s men are second in the table at the moment and continue to look the part in the English top flight.
