Chelsea goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina is currently on trial with sister club Strasbourg, per L’Equipe. They are likely gauging whether he is good enough to replace Mike Penders.

The Blues signed the 22-year-old American international four years ago for £12 million, but he never really nailed down a starting berth at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are now looking to streamline their squad and could kill two birds with one stone by loaning him to the BlueCo-owned French side.

Interestingly, the report also mentions that Filip Jorgensen, another goalkeeper the Blues signed, who has struggled to stake a claim for his place, could join Strasbourg.

Jorgensen has gotten opportunities to prove himself in a Chelsea shirt, but his handling is weak.

He struggles aerially and is nothing to write home about with the ball at his feet.

It remains unclear which goalkeeper will join the Alsace club, but both men are surplus to requirements for the West London outfit and need to be offloaded.

If Chelsea are serious about bouncing back, they should be selling Robert Sanchez alongside Slonina and Jorgensen.

They need a more reliable shot-stopper to compete with Penders.

Another downside of Chelsea’s dreadful, mindless youth recruitment policy is that the damage extends beyond the club’s on-pitch regression.

While the Blues have stockpiled endless prospects, they have also stalled the development of players who desperately needed a clear pathway and regular football.

Slonina arrived from America with huge potential but has seen his progress slow, while Jorgensen has struggled to establish himself despite opportunities.

Instead of carefully nurturing talent, Chelsea’s bloated squad model has created unnecessary competition and uncertainty.

Young players need stability, not a conveyor belt of signings blocking their route.

The club’s obsession with collecting potential has come at a cost, leaving promising players stuck in limbo while Chelsea themselves continue searching for solutions.
