Final injury updates have landed for Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley between Chelsea and Leeds United, with significant absentees confirmed on both sides. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, both camps issued their last bulletins ahead of kick-off.
Chelsea sacked head coach Liam Rosenior after Tuesday night’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton, when key players were missing. Leeds also had major absentees for Wednesday’s trip to Bournemouth, where Sean Longstaff came off the bench to hit a 95th-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw.
Daniel Farke outlined fresh setbacks at Thursday’s pre-match press conference, saying he was waiting on three players and had ruled another out. Interim Chelsea boss Callum McFarlane spoke on Friday, with updates on two star men among the topics.
Chelsea will be without Estevao, the 19-year-old winger sidelined by a hamstring injury suffered in last weekend’s defeat to Manchester United and out for the season. Jamie Gittens remains out with a hamstring problem sustained before the Port Vale quarter-final. Levi Colwill is still recovering from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he picked up last summer.
Mykhaylo Mudryk remains suspended after being charged with a doping offence by the FA. Leeds midfielder Ilia Gruev has damaged a meniscus in training and, Farke said on Thursday, his season is over. There was no fresh update on Reece James after last month’s hamstring injury, which would suggest the Chelsea captain is still sidelined.
Further doubts persist in both squads and two players have returned, with final selection calls to follow before Sunday afternoon at Wembley.
