According to L'Équipe, Chelsea and Manchester City reached an agreement in principle on Tuesday for Enzo Fernandez, set at £120m (€140m) plus bonuses.

The 2022 World Cup-winning Argentine midfielder, 25, is expected to join City before the window closes, subject to paperwork and a medical. He is contracted to Chelsea until 2032.

The move caps one of the summer’s standout sagas. Keen to depart a Chelsea side not involved in Europe, Fernandez is close to getting his wish.

He had attracted interest from several elite clubs in recent years, including PSG, but preferred City as he wants to work again with Enzo Maresca, who coached him at Chelsea.

For City, it would be another major addition in midfield after the arrival of former Lille player Ayyoub Bouaddi for €100m.
