In a recent report, InterLive mentioned that Chelsea are among the clubs hoping to land Lille forward Jonathan David this summer. It has been stated that the Blues would face competition in the form of West Ham United, Newcastle United and Arsenal in the race to land the Canada international.

David’s Impressive Form In French Football This Season

David has enjoyed a fruitful season at the French club as he has put in a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Canadian striker has scored 25 goals and picked up 12 assists in 48 matches for Lille this season in multiple competitions.

The 25-year-old has given a good account of himself in the opposition half based on his average of 2.3 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball after making 82.9% of his attempted passes in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Lille will expire this summer which could open the door for the Blues to sign him on a free transfer soon.

Is David A Decent Fit For Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca?

David is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal and has proven himself into a good finisher up top. He has got the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates on the offensive end of the field and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.

The Canadian sensation can link up play well with others around him in the opposition half. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if Chelsea manage to win the race for his services in this summer transfer window.

At 25, David has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for the West London club’s needs in the long run. He would no doubt add more goals to Enzo Maresca’s attack.

Furthermore, David would help the Blues compete for some major trophies in the coming seasons. Thus, Chelsea should focus on signing him on a free transfer later this summer.
