The shortlist for the Women’s PFA Young Player of the Year has been announced, with Chelsea stars making up half of the six nominated players.
Chelsea’s leading goalscorer Aggie Beever-Jones, Maika Hamano, and Wieke Kaptein, all make the shortlist after helping the Blues to a WSL, FA Cup and League Cup treble.
Grace Clinton could win the award for the second year running after the Manchester United and England star again made the shortlist.
The final two players on the shortlist are Liverpool’s Olivia Smith, and Manchester City’s Mary Fowler.
Aggie Beever-Jones makes the shortlist for the Women’s PFA Young Player of the Year after topping the scoring sheets for Chelsea in 2024-25.
The 21-year-old scored 13 goals in 39 appearances for the Blues, nine of which were in the WSL.
Her form led to her being selected in Sarina Wiegman’s 23-player squad for Women’s Euro 2025.
Grace Clinton is the holder of the PFA Young Player of the Year award after a breakthrough season in 2023-24 on loan at Tottenham.
She saw off competition from Lauren James, Beever-Jones, Khiara Keating, Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park to win the award.
This year, the 22-year-old is a strong candidate after scoring nine goals in 28 appearances for Manchester United – eight of which were in the WSL.
Clinton is also part of the Lionesses squad at Euro 2025 this summer.
Australia and Manchester City star Mary Fowler makes the shortlist after some impressive displays in the WSL this season.
The 22-year-old scored 10 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions, six in the WSL.
Her season was brought to a premature end when she suffered an ACL injury during Man City’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United in April.
Japan international Maika Hamano enjoyed a breakthrough season with WSL champions Chelsea in 2024-25.
After just eight appearances in her first season-and-a-half at Chelsea, Hamano played 30 times for the Blues in all competitions this season.
The 21-year-old forward scored two goals in 17 for Chelsea in the WSL, with six in all competitions.
Netherlands midfielder Weike Kaptein joined Chelsea in 2023, but spent the 2023-24 season on loan at former club Twente.
She was given her chance in 2024-25 and would go on to make 33 appearances for the Blues.
In the WSL, the 19-year-old star scored two goals during 16 appearances. Kaptein could come up against England at Euro 2025 if she is selected in the Netherlands squad.
Liverpool’s Canadian star Olivia Smith has been attracting the interest of clubs including Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal following an excellent season on Merseyside.
Smith, who joined Liverpool from Sporting Lisbon last summer, scored six goals in 15 WSL appearances.
The 20-year-old will be one of the favourites to win the award after her excellent season at the Reds.
The winner of the Women’s PFA Young Player of the Year award will be announced on August 19th.
It will be announced at a ceremony held at the Manchester Opera House.
