Chelsea didn’t make any new first team signings in January, but they did add one new player – Mamadou Sarr was recalled from his loan at Strasbourg.
He’s yet to play a minute since moving, and in his press conference today, Liam Rosenior was asked whether Friday’s night’s FA Cup game against Hull would be a good chance to give the defender his first touch of grass.

Liam Rosenior speaks after his first game in charge.
“Yes. Mamadou’s got a great chance to start the game,” Rosenior said of the centre back.
“It’s very difficult for a player in January to move clubs. Obviously, the great thing for Mamadou is he’s been here before and also he knows me very well and my expectations and demands with the players. He’s only been here for a week, so he needs time to bed in. He needs time to acclimatise, but now I think he’s in a really good place and he’ll definitely see the pitch at some point on Friday.”
Despite Rosenior’s denials, we are pretty sure Sarr will start – Wesley Fofana needs his minutes saved for league games, and Trevoh Chalobah has been playing a lot and needs a rest. We’re all excited to see how the (sort of) new man gets on.
Rosenior was also asked about the man that Sarr could be filling in for – Wesley Fofana. He’s still not able to play every game, and that’s then putting more minutes on Chalobah’s plate. The manager was asked when his French star would be physically capable of playing week in, week out.
The manager also had updates on his team’s likely setup tomorrow – he insisted he didn’t see it as a chance to rotate, but lets get real, there will be many changes to last night’s team.
