Chelsea’s win over Everton at the weekend was pretty routine. What followed in the press conference was not.

Manager Enzo Maresca, in the middle of a routine answer about Malo Gusto’s form, suddenly started speaking in a passionate way about how this had been his “worst 48 hours” since joining Chelsea.

Nobody really knew what he meant, and his follow up answers remained cryptic. But it was clear he was upset by something, and we’ve been waiting to find out what.

Yesterday the well connected insider Ben Jacobs came through with an update, although it still doesn’t get too specific about what’s wrong.

Jacobs says Maresca ire aimed upwards

Enzo Maresca has a tense moment in his press conference.

“Enzo Maresca has an internal issue at Chelsea which prompted his post-match comments about not feeling supported, talkSPORT understands,” Jacobs wrote.

“talkSPORT understands his frustration has been brewing for some time despite qualifying for the Champions League in his first season in charge and claiming both the Europa League and Club World Cup.”

So it does indeed sound like this anger is directed at his bosses at Chelsea rather than at the fans or the media. That’s a pretty explosive move to make from the coach, and we still don’t know in what way he wants to be supported more. He’s clearly feeling comfortable in the manager’s chair if he’s making

We will find out more later today at the manager’s press conference ahead of our EFL Cup game against Cardiff tomorrow, although we can expect a very smoothed off, well rehearsed answer by then.

In other news…

Trevoh Chalobah was one of the stars of the show on Saturday and his stats highlight another excellent performance alongside Wesley Fofana in Chelsea’s back line.

Cole Palmer opened the scoring with a lovely run and finish after being picked out by Gusto. The game had been pretty pedestrian until that point.
