Chelsea had eyes on Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White earlier this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The Blues eventually took Morgan Rogers to Stamford Bridge but were looking at his England international teammate Gibbs-White following a terrific 2025/26 campaign.
The reported Chelsea target bagged 15 goals and four assists in the Premier League to help his side avoid relegation.
He is a ‘special‘ player who can comfortably slot in at any of the attacking positions in a back three or back four set-up.
Gibbs-White also delivered three goals and three assists in 14 appearances as they reached the Europa League final, putting himself on the radar of clubs like Chelsea.
However, he reportedly wants a club in the UEFA Champions League, ruling out Xabi Alonso’s side from the running.
He looks set to stay put for another summer after moves to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur fell through in the past two years.
If he wants to move this summer, it will have to be abroad, with Chelsea now out of the picture and no other Premier League side looking to pull the trigger.
If he waits till next season, he might have more English clubs circling for his signature.
Chelsea’s interest in Gibbs-White now appears to be a closed chapter.
After another busy transfer window that has seen the club invest heavily to strengthen, the priority has shifted away from new arrivals.
Chelsea must now focus on trimming an overcrowded squad, with several first-team players expected to leave permanently while others are likely to head out on loan.
Balancing the books and ensuring Alonso has a streamlined group to work with will take precedence over any further marquee signings.
Unless an unexpected market opportunity emerges, like in the centre-half or goalkeeping area, Chelsea should be done after the expected arrival of Pep Chavarria.
