You wouldn’t expect Chelsea’s team news against a League One side to cause too much controversy, but the Port Vale announcement caused a wide-ranging throwing up of hands online for one simple reason.
Josh Acheampong, the young defender we’ve all wanted to see far more of this season, was once again not starting.
‘If he can’t even start this game, when will the poor kid get a chance?’, was the widespread sentiment on social media.
Since the end of the January window, Acheampong has just two starts, and eight appearances in total.
It has massively raised fears that the youngster will push to leave for more opportunities.

He does at least have a long contract we can fall back on now.
Enzo Fernandez will return next week – but will he be captain? That’s a big question Chelsea now have to answer.
Chelsea have spent big on attackers over the last few years, while missing out on the pick of the bunch in Michael Olise.
