Injury boost: Romeo Lavia could soon be available for Chelsea

Enzo Maresca has few injuries problems to deal with heading into the final stages of the season.

Chelsea suffered another frustrating afternoon on Sunday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Ipswich, having to come from two-goals down just to earn a point.

Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson all started, having recently had injury issues, and Maresca could soon be further boosted.

Wesley Fofana is facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines, but there is better news for Romeo Lavia and Marc Guiu.

Romeo Lavia

Romeo Lavia could return sooner than initially feared in a late-season boost for Chelsea.

Having featured significantly in the early stages of the campaign, hamstring injuries have kept Lavia on the sidelines for much of the last four months.

The midfielder then suffered an injury in training ahead of the win over Tottenham earlier this month, with Maresca admitting he was unsure how long Lavia would be out.

However, speaking last week, it was a more positive update from the Chelsea boss.

“Hopefully, we can get Romeo [playing] very soon,” he said.

Potential return date: Sunday April 20 vs Fulham (A)

Marc Guiu

Chelsea are expected to have Marc Guiu available before the end of the season.

The striker has been out since February with what is believed to be a hamstring injury, but he has recently made progress in his recovery.

Asked for an update on Guiu ahead of last week’s win over Legia Warsaw, Maresca said: "Marc, we have good news from today that he looks quite good, much better, and he can be back before the season finishes.”

Wesley Fofana

There will be no return before the end of the campaign for Wesley Fofana.

The defender was injured ahead of the Spurs match and has since been forced to undergo surgery on a hamstring injury.

The club announced: “Wesley was assessed by specialists this week after the 24-year-old suffered an injury of the muscle. Following that assessment, it was concluded that an operation would be required.

“The 24-year-old will now begin his recovery and undergo rehabilitation with the club's medical staff at Cobham over the coming weeks.”

Omari Kellyman

Omari Kellyman has endured a painful first season in a Chelsea shirt.

He picked up a serious hamstring injury in September before he had the chance to make a first senior appearance, and that will not happen before the end of the campaign.

Kellyman has suffered a setback and will now turn his focus to recovering ahead of next season.

"Beyond gutted to say that this season has come to an early end for me due to a reinjury of my hamstring, despite only just returning after having hamstring issues for a massive part of this season," Kellyman posted on social media.

"24-25 has been a tough season for me mentally and physically due to injury but it's important now that I take time to get this right and come out the other side stronger and better ready for what next season brings."
