I’m not sure that all the fan base will agree with him, but one Chelsea legends claims the model is working very well.
I think the recruitment model has a lot of pros about it, but also a lot of cons and it lacks serious balance in squad building. I think there are a lot of issues that just cause too many teething problems. The idea isn’t the worst, and they have signed some top young players – some of which I believe will, or can become stars at some point. But there have also been some questionable signings.
I don’t have an issue with a youth-led recruitment policy – I just think it should have been done with more balance and more experience added into it early doors. This would have just helped the raw players be less raw, give them more motivation, and allow them to learn on the pitch alongside some of the best to do it; players who have been there and done that a hundred times before.
But former Blue, Gianfranco Zola, says it’s working very well.

Gianfranco Zola working as a pundit.
As cited on X, Zola said:
“It seems the model is working, and is working very well. I have to say Maresca has done an amazing job, because he’s given to the whole team a structure. Everybody knows what they’re doing.
“And to think that nowadays we are playing without our best player, Cole Palmer because of injury and we are still performing well, and getting results. It is remarkable.”
Chelsea have been drawn against either Arsenal or Crystal Palace in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Midfielder Andrey Santos has been speaking about his favoured position to play, and his answer probably wont surprise anyone too much.
