Chelsea and Liverpool currently lead the table when it comes to time-wasting and back passes in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal have developed a reputation for time-wasting under manager Mikel Arteta in recent years, but there has been a notable change.

Chelsea have been the biggest time-wasters during the ongoing campaign. The Blues have had the ball out of play for 47.4 percent of their overall minutes.

They have completed an average of 33.9 passes back to the goalkeeper per league game, while 87.6% of their passes have been non-attacking.

This constitutes a time-wasting score of 88.9/100, which is the highest among Premier League clubs.

Liverpool are second in the table with a draining score of 79.2. They have had 46.2% of the ball out of play, with 87.3% of non-attacking passes.

Arne Slot’s side have made the most back passes to the shot-stopper (38.4), while they have received the highest average of added minutes (8.4).

The reigning English champions have capitalised on added time with late winning goals against Newcastle United and Burnley, but it has also backfired on them.

The Reds have lost to Crystal Palace and Chelsea after conceding dramatic late stoppage-time goals.

Arsenal have built a reputation for mastering the dark arts. Their goal-kicks and throw-ins have generally taken longer than those of other teams.

However, they only rank eighth this term. Arsenal have a time-wasting score of 61.7, with Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United placed ahead of them.
