Chelsea make enquiry for Hugo Ekitike alternative | OneFootball

Chelsea have enquired into the availability of Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade.

Despite the arrival of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, Chelsea remain keen to add another forward to their ranks ahead of the club’s Champions League return.

The West Londoners have held talks with Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike but were unable to agree a deal before the Club World Cup. Frankfurt want €100m for the Frenchman and Chelsea are now considering alternatives.

BILD journalist Julian Agardi has claimed Chelsea have enquired into a Bundesliga alternative. Initial talks to discuss the conditions of a deal for Woltemade were held before the forward headed this summer’s u-21 European Championship.

Woltemade scored 17 goals in all competitions for Stuttgart last season and was the top scorer as the German club won the DFB-Pokal.

He enhanced his reputation during Germany’s opening fixture of the u-21 European Championship with a hat-trick in his nation’s 3-0 win over Slovenia.

Woltemade, who made his senior debut earlier this month, has now scored 10 times in 13 appearances for Germany at u-21 level.

Agardi has revealed that Chelsea are one of several sides interested in the 6ft 6in striker.

“Before the start of the U21 Chelsea approached Nick Woltemade,” he said.

“The English club stated that they were closely monitoring the striker and were exploring the contractual situation. Talks between VfB and Woltemade’s side will begin next week. The topic: a salary increase.”

Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Everton have also been linked with signing the German this summer.
