Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez continues to hint that he is interested in exiting Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Chelsea star was asked which cities he’d like to live in, and he chose Madrid.
When probed about which club in the Spanish capital he’d love to play for, he gave a coy smile.
For the past few months, there have been reports that Fernandez will leave Chelsea this summer for Real Madrid.
The Blues are struggling this term and look likely to miss out on UEFA Champions League football for the second time in three seasons.
Chelsea’s inability to consistently compete at the highest level has reportedly left the 25-year-old disillusioned about staying.
Fernandez is entering his prime. He has bagged 12 goals and six assists in 46 appearances this season.
He played a key role as the West London outfit won the Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup last term.
Chelsea’s situation is entirely, frustratingly self-inflicted.
After spending billions in the transfer market, there is no coherent identity, no balanced squad, and no clear long-term vision to maximise elite talents like Fernandez.
Instead of building a settled, world-class core around him, the club has lurched from one managerial appointment to another, each bringing a different philosophy and leaving behind a mismatched squad.
The constant upheaval has stunted development and eroded belief. For a player entering his prime, ambition matters, and Chelsea are failing to match it.
If Fernandez walks away, it will be yet another damning indictment of a club that has spent recklessly but planned poorly at every turn.
As for Real Madrid, landing a midfielder like Fernandez is a coup. He is the deep-lying playmaker and orchestrator the team has been missing since Toni Kroos left.
He can be a difference-maker for Los Blancos, given Chelsea’s failure to provide a serious project he can get behind.
