Chelsea are offering €28 million to sign Andrea Cambiaso this summer, but Juventus want €35-40m according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Blues look set to play in a back three under new manager Xabi Alonso, and want to sign new wing-backs after selling Marc Cucurella.
Despite having Jorrel Hato and the incoming Valentin Barco, Chelsea will head back into the market for a replacement/
The Italian caught the eye of several clubs last season, bagging three goals in 33 Serie A outings. He averages 1.6 key passes per game.
Described as a ‘modern footballer‘, the 26-year-old left-wing-back can also deputise on the other flank and slot comfortably into midfield if required.
Juventus are also considering a deal with Chelsea involving Nicolas Jackson, who is surplus to requirements.
The Italian giants need a new striker and have previously considered a swoop for the Senegalese forward.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Cambiaso feels like another transfer that raises more questions than answers.
They should be exploring every avenue to bring Lewis Hall back rather than signing another unspectacular option.
Hall has already proved he can thrive in the Premier League, and the club reportedly want to recruit players with experience of English football.
If Hall is out of reach, they should trust the options on their books.
Hato is one of Europe’s brightest young defenders, while Barco possesses the attacking qualities to flourish as a wing-back under Alonso.
Both players offer the same long-term upside as Cambiaso, who, despite his technical ability and reasonable price tag, does not move the needle.
Instead of adding another player that doesn’t fit the bill, the Blues should back the talent they already have.
