Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling has turned down a loan offer from West Ham United.
The Hammers manager Nuno Espirito Santo is an admirer of the 31-year-old. The Portuguese boss also tried to bring him to Nottingham Forest in the summer.
West Ham were in talks with Chelsea over a loan move, but The Times report that Sterling has rejected their approach.
The former Liverpool and Manchester City star prefers a permanent deal to leave the West Londoners and hopes to land a move to Fulham.
Sterling has not played a single minute of competitive football this season and also failed to impress during his loan spell at Arsenal last season, where he scored once in 28 appearances.
Enzo Maresca, who recently left as Chelsea head coach, never showed any interest in featuring the right winger in his squad this season.
His contract at Stamford Bridge will not expire until June 2027, with his current deal worth around £325,000-per-week.
West Ham are desperate to sign players in the winter transfer window as they face a difficult battle to stay in the Premier League.
Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion means they are still four points away from safety.
West Ham have agreed a £25 million deal to bring in Taty Castellanos from Lazio.
They are close to signing Gil Vicente forward Pablo.
The Irons are also pursuing a move for Adama Traore, but the forward’s wage demands are a major stumbling block in the way of a transfer.
