Chelsea’s usually reliable midfielder makes a costly error as Blues let two-goal lead slip at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea dropped costly points in the Premier League as they gave up a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home with relegation-threatened Leeds.
Chelsea took the lead midway through the first half when Cole Palmer fed Joao Pedro and the Brazilian finished well, and they doubled that lead when Palmer scored a second-half penalty.
But two goals in seven minutes by Noah Okafor and Lukas Nmecha for Leeds left Chelsea with just a point from a game they looked for all the world as though they were en route to winning.
Dom Smith was at Stamford Bridge to rate the Chelsea players’ performances…
Robert Sanchez 6
A long ball to Joao Pedro allowed Chelsea to win their penalty, but he did not help as Leeds scored their second goal.
Malo Gusto 6
Made a few really good diagonal runs in behind which saw him receive the ball behind the Leeds defence. Defensively decent but did get himself booked very early on.
Josh Acheampong 6
For the most part, good. Winning challenges and passing responsibly. One superb run out from the back saw him travel so far with the ball that plenty of Blues fans were urging him to shoot by the end. But at fault for the second goal as he failed to clear.
Trevoh Chalobah 5
Won plenty of headers but was given plenty to think about by Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor in the Leeds attack in the second half.
Marc Cucurella 6
Did a good job in the first half of offering himself as an attacking option while also getting made to make clearances. Went off at half-time, presumably with a knock.
Andrey Santos 6
Went about his business well at the foot of midfield. Brought off with 11 minutes to go as Chelsea tried to claw victory back.
Moises Caicedo 5
Did okay for Chelsea but guilty of allowing Leeds back into the game by conceding the penalty with a foul.
Cole Palmer 7
Assisted Joao Pedro’s opener, scored the penalty with aplomb, and was bright all game for Chelsea. Missed an absolute sitter to win the game in stoppage time, though.

Enzo Fernandez 6
Busy in midfield, offering himself defensively and getting forward as well. Didn’t quite happen for him.
Estevao 7
Had a bright impact, coming into the game either side of half-time, nearly scoring, and making some excellent runs.
Joao Pedro 8
His exceptional finish gave Chelsea the penalty, and he won the penalty as Jaka Bijol gave him a stupid push in the back. Hit the bar late on.
Subs:
Jorrel Hato (Cucurella, 46’) 6
Did a decent job at left-back when he came on, but it was noticeable that Chelsea had lost Cucurella. Did put a sublime ball into the box in stoppage time, with Joao Pedro clipping the crossbar.
Pedro Neto (Estevao, 64’) 5
Almost scored a cross but it just bounced wide.
Wesley Fofana (Acheampong, 79’) N/A
Liam Delap (Santos, 79’) N/A
Not used: Sharman-Lowe, Garnacho, Guiu, Badiashile, Sarr
