Blues end run of five Premier League games without a win thanks to ruthless second half display

Chelsea won their first Premier League match since mid-December as they put Wolves to the sword in a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

They took the lead when Tosin Adarabioyo slotted home from a corner, with VAR overturning an incorrectly raised offside flag.

But Wolves were level at the break after goalkeeper Robert Sanchez dropped a corner into the path of Matt Doherty to stab home.

Chelsea were just too good for Wolves after the interval, though, scoring through Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke to ensure all the points were theirs as they rose to fourth in the table.

Dom Smith was at Stamford Bridge to rate the Chelsea players’ performances…

Robert Sanchez 4

Dropped an absolute clanger on a plate for Doherty to score from a corner in first-half stoppage time. Eventually, Chelsea must upgrade on him. Did save well from Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen late on.

Reece James 6

Battled hard, winning some key tackles from right-back on a rare start. Came through the game well.

Tosin Adarabioyo 7

Scored the opening goal with a coolly slotted finish. Was booked in the aftermath of Wolves’ leveller.

Trevoh Chalobah 8 | Star man

Fitted back in like he had never been away, playing confidently into midfield and tackling Wolves forwards as they came within his vicinity.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall 6

Went about his business fine in midfield. First Premier League start for Chelsea had been a long time coming and brought an assist for Cucurella with a glanced header.

Moises Caicedo 6

Worked tirelessly, hounding Wolves in midfield and nicking the ball for his team. Overcame a blow in the first half to finish the game.

Noni Madueke 7

Worked hard and was typically forward-thinking. Delivered a gorgeous cross for Cucurella for the second goal, before stealing in to score the third. Being ultra critical, still shoots a little too often in the final third when passing is sometimes the better option.

Cole Palmer 7

Forced a good save from Jose Sa in the first half and, as always, teammates looked to him to provide the attacking spark for the Blues.

Pedro Neto 4

A subdued performance by the Portuguese saw him fail to take his chance, becoming the first Chelsea player substituted.

Nicolas Jackson 5

Ran in behind well but couldn’t really get into the game, always playing off the shoulder and rarely seeing the ball. Missed a late chance.

Subs:

Jadon Sancho (Neto, 62’) 6

Really ran at Wolves, showcasing his magnificent first touch. There may even have been a nutmeg thrown in there too...
