Chelsea are plotting a move to bring Antonio Rüdiger back to west London as the club look to add experience to their youthful squad.
Rudiger has made just one La Liga appearance for Real Madrid this season due to a hamstring injury and his fitness issues have cast doubt over his future at the Bernabeu.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, with the Spanish side yet to make a decision over an extension.
Having signed Dean Huijsen in the summer and with Eder Militao back to full fitness, Rudiger could be allowed to move on in the summer with Chelsea monitoring his situation. Real Madrid are also planning to sign a centre-back, with interest in Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea are considering a move to re-sign Rudiger. The Germany international is viewed as a player who could add vital experience to their youthful side, setting the standard and offering leadership to Enzo Maresca’s squad.
Rudiger made 203 appearances across a five-season spell at Chelsea earlier in his career and won the Champions League with the Blues in 2021.
He joined Real Madrid on a free in 2022 and has since won eight trophies with Los Blancos. Chelsea reportedly believe Rudiger could play a similar role to the one Thiago Silva performed in west London, after arriving from PSG at the age of 35.
