Chelsea have Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap on their transfer radar as the club look to bring in competition for Nicolas Jackson.
Delap has caught the eye during an impressive start to the season at Ipswich, where the 21-year-old has scored six goals in 11 Premier League starts.
His performances for the newly-promoted Tractor Boys have not gone unnoticed and Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips has claimed the Blues are monitoring his displays.
Chelsea remain keen to bring in a centre-forward to provide competition and cover for Nicolas Jackson. Their interest in Delap is being led by recruitment chief Joe Shields, who has been impressed by the youngster’s adaptation to the top flight.
Delap signed for Ipswich from Manchester City in a £20m deal in the summer. A prolific goalscorer for the club’s youth sides, he was unable to break into Pep Guardiola’s plans and made just six senior appearances. Delap spent time on loan at Stoke, Preston and Hull in recent campaigns before his summer switch to Portman Road.
The son of former Sunderland and Stoke midfielder Rory, Delap has scored twice in nine appearances for England at u-21 level.
