Chelsea’s midfield problems were laid bare in yesterday’s win over Brighton. Enzo Fernandez is refusing to play – or not being allowed to. Moises Caicedo is injured. Dario Essugo is seemingly leaving, Reece James can cover but can’t start three games in a week.
It meant Romeo Lavia and Malo Gusto in midfield, and while the Blues got the result, it wasn’t at times. They had no midfield control. The club need to replace Enzo right now, if they accept he’s going.

Well the good news is that help is on the way. There was a lot of talk about Lamine Camara last week, with the Blues apparently engaging seriously with Monaco over the midfielder’s transfer.
That has now got somewhere – Sacha Tavolieri reports that there’s an agreement in principle for a €45m transfer. That’s pretty cheap if it’s true. The reporter insists that it’s not yet a done deal – but it doesn’t sound like we will be waiting long.
He’s playing right now against Marseille, and having a good game. These could be his last minutes for Monaco.
Pedro Neto started and scored yesterday – but his manager can’t guarantee his place in the team it seems.
Losing Moises Caicedo to injury was a big blow for Chelsea, and Xabi Alonso gave an update on his midfielder’s fitness.
Chelsea slotted Emi Martinez into their starting lineup today and after the game Joao Pedro was asked what an impact that had made.
