Chelsea seem to be leading the race to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, with Arsenal and Bayern Munich also showing strong interest in the former PSG midfielder.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported Leipzig paid €80 million for the 22-year-old, with €55 million upfront, and Simons is under contract until June 2027. PSG included a sell-on clause in the deal, entitling them to a share of any future transfer fee.

That strategy of putting on a sell-on clause from past sales has already paid off this summer for PSG. According to The Athletic’s Adam Crafton, PSG earned €17 million (£15 million) from Hugo Ekitiké’s move to Liverpool thanks to a similar clause.

Romano added that Chelsea are making solid progress in talks over personal terms with Simons. The midfielder is reportedly open to the move and keen to join the Premier League club, with discussions ongoing to finalize the deal.

On Friday, Bayern Munich insider Christian Falk wrote in his latest column the current situation regarding Simons.

“It’s all calmed down at the moment with Christopher Nkunku and Xavi Simons,” Falk wrote. “The latter is a very hot option for Chelsea. Nkunku is also not particularly high up on the list and will remain that way for as long as a decision is yet to be made on Woltemade.”

Recently, Bild reported that Bayern Munich are interested in Simons, but the RB Leipzig midfielder is currently leaning toward a move to the Premier League.
