Chelsea risk repeating Joao Felix disaster with latest unpopular transfer link

Matt Law yesterday evening put out some interesting transfer news – and unlike most rumours, it’s one that a lot of fans won’t be happy with.

The Telegraph writer gave an update on one player the Blues are trying to sell and one they’re trying to bring in – with the same team on the other end of the deal. According to his piece for the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea and Man U are “weighing up the possibility of trying to send Christopher Nkunku and Alejandro Garnacho in opposite directions this summer.”

Swap deal could work for both teams

We don’t see many true swap deals in football anymore because they aren’t as beneficial for clubs trying to stay below spending limits, but we do see plenty of deals which are de facto swaps, with players going each way for similar or identical sums.

There is a lot in favour of a deal here – as Law points out, both Garnacho and Nkunku want out of their current club, and both clubs are happy to get rid. Nkunku’s appearances at Chelsea have dwindled to nothing, while Garnacho has been told he’s not in Ruben Amorim’s plans.

Why Chelsea fans are reacting badly to Garnacho rumours

Chelsea are in the market for a winger, and Garnacho would fit the bill in terms of position and age. Why are fans reacting badly to the rumours then? Basically Garnacho is seen as a bit of a show pony and perhaps even a bad dressing room presence.

Let’s face it, there’s a reason Amorim is happy to shift him after working together for 6 months.

Just as with Joao Felix a year ago, it looks worrying like Chelsea are going to convince themselves that they’re the ones who can fix a broken talent. It didn’t work out with Felix and we fear it won’t work out here either.
