Chelsea are showing interest in Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae, according to reports in Germany.

Liam Rosenior wants to bring in a centre-back this month amid injuries to Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo. Chelsea have been pursuing a deal for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, but have so far been reluctant to meet the player’s £55m+ asking price.

Min-jae has now emerged as an alternative, with the South Korean offering an experienced and, perhaps more attainable, alternative.

The 29-year-old has struggled for a regular role at Bayern Munich this season, starting just eight times in the Bundesliga.

The arrival of Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen last summer has cost Min-jae his place in the side and the defender is understood to be open to an exit, as he looks for rhythm ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Chelsea are weighing up an approach, if Min-jae is available at a ‘reasonable price’. The centre-back became the most expensive Asian footballer of all time when he joined Bayern Munich for a €50m fee in 2023 and won the Bundesliga title last season.

He previously won Serie A with former club Napoli in in 2022-23, earning the division’s Best Defender Award that season.
