Chelsea are still reeling from their midweek mauling by PSG, but they’ve got to regain their focus and think about tomorrow’s game against Newcastle in the Premier League.
The latest news isn’t good. Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC has just confirmed that Pedro Neto has been given an extra game’s ban by the FA for his ill-discipline in the game against Arsenal two weeks ago.
After getting a yellow for dissent, the Portugal star scythed down Gabriel Martinelli in an act of utter foolishness and petulance. To make things worse, instead of taking his medicine, he decided to scream in the face of the ref, who was only doing his job.
Neto’s ban has been bumped from one game to two, and he won’t play tomorrow.
For Chelsea it’s not the worst news. Neto played 100 minutes against Wrexham and 90 against PSG in the last week, and has Alejandro Garnacho ready and waiting to replace him. Jamie Gittens is also training fully and is close to a return from his injury.
Liam Rosenior decided to defend his decision to not make changes in the PSG game until after the 80th minute. We’re not sure we agree with his logic.
The manager also defended Enzo Fernandez’s reaction to Filip Jorgensen making a second mistake later in the game.
