The 18-year-old striker will spend the rest of the 2026/27 campaign with the reigning Scottish Premiership champions, having undergone a medical on Tuesday.

The agreement is for a straight loan and does not include any option for a permanent transfer next summer.

Celtic have offered Mheuka the chance of regular game time at senior level this term after he committed his long-term future to Chelsea a week ago, signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge that is valid until the summer of 2033.

Mheuka is a highly-regarded prospect by Chelsea's hierarchy and won the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award last term.

He joined Chelsea’s academy from Brighton in 2022 and has made nine senior appearances for the club so far since being handed his first-team debut by Enzo Maresca in December 2024, including two in the Premier League.

Mheuka - who represents England at Under-19 level - is now set for his first loan spell away from west London as he seeks to impress current Blues boss Xabi Alonso.

He joins a Celtic squad that have won all three of their opening games in the Scottish Premiership this season, having pipped surprise package Hearts to their 14th title in the last 15 years in dramatic fashion on the final day in May.

Martin O’Neill’s side dropped into the league phase of this season’s Europa League last week after throwing away a four-goal aggregate lead in a humiliating defeat by Austrian club LASK Linz in the Champions League play-off round.

Celtic’s late move for Mheuka comes amid an injury to club-record £11million signing Kasper Hogh, who missed Saturday’s 2-1 home win over Falkirk. Fellow forward Callum Osmand is also currently out injured.

Celtic previously held talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for teenage midfielder Landon Emenalo, while they have also been linked with Ecuador winger Kendry Paez ahead of Tuesday night’s 11pm BST summer transfer deadline.

Standard Sport understands that the interest in Emenalo remains, but is complicated by the fact that the player is currently out injured for around six weeks.

Celtic are also expected to sign former England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on loan from Wolves before the window closes.
