Chelsea are poised to miss out on Paris Saint-Germain talent Senny Mayulu, who is set to sign a new long-term contract with the French powerhouse.

According to French news publication RMC Sport, the highly rated 20-year-old midfielder is expected to sign a new five-year contract, keeping him at the French capital until the summer of 2031.

Chelsea were among the teams keeping a close eye on the youngster’s situation, but Mayulu always preferred to remain in Paris and continue his development with the club he has supported since childhood.

Mayulu is regarded as one of the most promising graduates to emerge from PSG’s academy in recent years, and he’s seen as a key part of the club’s future.

Since graduating from the academy, Mayulu has been a valuable asset to the first team, especially under the leadership of Luis Enrique, who has waxed lyrical about his ‘great potential

He has been handed ample opportunity to prove his worth and even scored in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan, where PSG ran out 5-0 winners.

However, he was an unused substitute in PSG’s Champions League title defence against Arsenal.

Mayulu’s versatility is one of his standout qualities, with the Frenchman capable of playing in a range of midfield and attacking positions.

His ability to adapt wherever he’s needed has made him a valuable option for the reigning European champions.

Mayulu played an important role as PSG completed a clean sweep last season, contributing six goals and five assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.

Chelsea’s interest in the talented Frenchman was hardly surprising as he fits the club’s transfer model.

Mayulu’s current contract with PSG runs out at the end of next season, and Chelsea were hoping to leverage his situation and lure him to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich were also keeping close tabs on Mayulu’s contract situation.

However, PSG have made sure to secure the youngster’s future, effectively ending any growing speculation about his long-term future at Parc des Princes.
