Chelsea team news vs Wolves and predicted lineup

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side will have to put their disappointing 2-2 draw at Qarabag behind them as they welcome basement boys Wolves to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues struggled against the Azerbaijani side in the Champions League side after their opener through Estevao was cancelled out, with the minnows taking a shock lead.

Alejandro Garnacho scored the equaliser but it was still a disappointing night when they were comfortable favourites.

It continued Chelsea’s mixed form after beating rivals Tottenham 1-0 last time out – but that was followed by a shock 2-1 loss at home to Sunderland the week before.

The team are currently seventh in the Premier League and they will be desperate to keep climbing the table amid a hint of pressure on Maresca’s position. Defeat to a managerless Wolves side who are without a win this season would certainly put him in the firing line.

The game will kick off at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, with a kick-off time of 8pm. The game will be aired on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.

Chelsea predicted XI vs Wolves

Chelsea: (4-2-3-1) Sanchez; James, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella, Caicedo, Gusto, Neto, Fernandez, Garnacho, Pedro

Chelsea team news vs Wolves

Maresca is expected to make a handful of changes from the side that draw at Qarabag in order to keep his team fresh.

Robert Sanchez will continue in goal, as will captain Reece James at right back. But for the rest of his defence, he should revert back to the back line he had in the win at Tottenham – with Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella returning.

Romeo Lavia suffered yet another injury blow during the game so he won’t be involved. Expect Moises Caicedo and Malo Gusto to come back into the midfield.

And while Estevao found the back of the net against Qarabag, it’s likely Pedro Neto will replace him on the right wing, despite missing the midweek game, with Enzo Fernandez playing in the hole.

Alejandro Garnacho, who netted the equaliser, should displace Jamie Gittens after some promising form by the ex-Manchester United star – and Joao Pedro is expected to get the nod up top.

In addition to Lavia, Chelsea remain without Cole Palmer, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill and Dario Essugo for this game.

Blues expected to pile misery on Wolves

Wolves are looking vulnerable this season and if Chelsea are in the mood, they could inflict a lot damage on the winless relegation favourites.

Chelsea are the second-highest scorers in the Premier League this season (18), while Wolves have conceded the most goals with 22.

So if Wolves aren’t set up solidly, they could be on the end of a heavy scoreline – which adds up to previous results between the two teams.

Chelsea have scored 5+ goals in four different Premier League games against Wolves, which includes a 6-2 win at Molineux last season.

It’s the most times Wolves have conceded 5+ goals against an opponent and such a tough fixture comes at the worst time, just days after sacking Vitor Pereira – with no successor line up as of yet.

Youth coaches James Collins and Richard Walker will take charge of the team for this game.
