Man Utd Set £65m Price Tag for Garnacho Amid Chelsea Interest

Manchester United have reportedly slapped a £65m valuation on Alejandro Garnacho as Chelsea reignite their interest in the Argentine winger, according to The Daily Star. The West London club, long linked with Garnacho, are expected to return with a renewed bid in the summer, but United have made it clear: only a substantial offer will be entertained.

Valuation Reflects Garnacho’s Potential, Not His Current Status

While Garnacho remains a prodigious talent—capable of unlocking defences with explosive pace and instinctive flair—his role under Ruben Amorim has been inconsistent. According to the report, “Garnacho… is open to leaving United after struggling to secure regular starts under Ruben Amorim.”

And therein lies the irony. A player with the kind of raw, match-winning potential United have lacked in wide areas is also a player they are willing to sell—if the price is right. United’s hierarchy, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are prepared to listen to offers for most of the squad as they try to balance the books and fund new signings.

Chelsea Must Offer More Than Just Money

Enzo Maresca may be interested, but Garnacho is reportedly seeking assurances about his role at Stamford Bridge: “Garnacho wants to be sure he would be making the right move.” With Chelsea’s squad already bloated and turnover high, the 19-year-old is understandably cautious about becoming another name lost in a long list of “projects”.

Garnacho is under contract until 2028. United won’t sell on the cheap, but if Chelsea meet their valuation—and offer clarity over his development, this is a move that may suit all parties.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Garnacho isn’t just another academy graduate; he’s the kind of daring, unpredictable forward Old Trafford fans yearn to see—unafraid to run at defenders, unfiltered in his approach. To see the club even considering a sale, especially when he’s still on a long-term deal, is a signal of how far they’ve drifted from safeguarding youthful talent.

Yes, the financial pressures are real. United do need to adhere to PSR rules, and the transfer market is a difficult balancing act. But watching Garnacho thrive in another shirt—especially Chelsea’s—would be painful for United supporters. Not just because he’s good, but because he’s theirs. There’s something uniquely frustrating about grooming talent only to pass it on because you failed to build a structure that helps it flourish.

And then there’s the optics. Selling Garnacho while suggesting Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire are untouchable? It feels tone-deaf. Garnacho may not start every game, but his ceiling is arguably higher than most on that list.
