Chelsea have put a £40m price tag on Trevoh Chalobah according to a report in the Sun today.

The Blues made it very clear they wanted to sell the defender last summer – and the summer before that – but in the end they’ve been forced to recall him from his loan at Crystal Palace to cover for their own needs in defence.

That fee looks steep, but he’s a solid and proven Premier League player at a good age. If he plays regularly between now and the end of the season, there seems no reason we can’t get that sort of money if we do sell him.

Let’s not forget, Axel Disasi cost €45m. Chalobah is a far better player than the Frenchman. Quite why the club are still desperate to sell him after repeatedly being shown how good he is is a mystery to us, but they seem quite committed to it.

At this stage, we’re resigned to it. We’re happy to see him back in Blue and we hope he can help us between now and the end of the season, but if he’s still not convinced the sporting directors, he never will.

Chalobah has chance to get straight back into action with return tomorrow night

Aside from all this endless transfer talk, the immediate question is whether Chalobah will be ready to start tomorrow night against Wolves. He was recalled in the middle of last week, and has only had a few training sessions with the team.

However the familiarity he should have from some of the training in the summer, plus last season, should mean he’s ready to go. Potential injury to Levi Colwill make it feel even more likely that Chalobah gets the nod.
