Axel Disasi (27) was linked with a move away from Chelsea throughout the summer transfer window. The Frenchman spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, however, he returned to Stamford Bridge after that move was not made permanent.

However, having returned to Chelsea, it became quickly apparent that the centre-back did not feature in Enzo Maresca’s plans. The London club looked to offload the defender before the closure of the transfer window but ultimately failed to do so.

There was, nonetheless, interest, as Disasi revealed during an interview with Le Média Carré. The former Stade de Reims man revealed that he was the subject of approaches from West Ham United and Bournemouth.

One of his former clubs, AS Monaco, were also in the mix. Disasi has revealed his desperation to return to the Principality club. “In the period between the approaches from Bournemouth and West Ham, Monaco arrived and that hit me emotionally. I had three incredible years at Monaco. When they came in, all the memories came back. Monaco is home,” began the Chelsea centre-back.

He continued, “I hoped that Chelsea would find a solution to allow me to leave on loan […] I pushed until the last minute to go to Monaco!”

Chelsea could not send any more players out on loan, having maxed out their quota, and the Principality club could only do a loan deal.
