Chelsea’s Chalobah on Rosenior exit and reaching FA Cup final | OneFootball

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah says the players must look at themselves following the departure of head coach Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea beat Leeds 1-0 in the FA Cup semi-final, but the game came at the end of a disappointing week for the Blues in which their Champions League qualification hopes seemingly ended following a 3-0 defeat to Brighton, which resulted in Rosenior being sacked by the club.

Reflecting on the win and being in another final, Chalobah said: “Yeah, of course (it feels good). Another final. Last year we were in finals and the year before. So it’s like, we have that mentality and it’s good that we showed that today. We all knew what the goal was and it was just a win no matter what.”

Despite reaching the final, in which they will play Manchester City, Chelsea have lost seven of their last nine games.

Asked what has been going wrong recently, the defender said: “I don’t know. Maybe when you don’t win games, it’s hard to get that determination back in. It’s just resetting, getting our standards back.

“We’re still the same players that we were at the start of the season when we were flying. It’s not like we lose our abilities overnight. It’s just obviously resetting and getting that feeling back and that mentality back.”

Rosenior had questioned his side’s effort after the loss to Brighton, saying: “That’s indefensible, that performance tonight. The manner of the goals we conceded, the amount of duels that we lost, the lack of intensity in the team. Something needs to change drastically right now.”

Asked about those comments, Chalobah said: “The past is the past. For us, it’s about the results. It’s not about that. We need to be winning games. That’s what the fans want and what we want. That’s what the club wants. For us, it’s just resetting. Whatever has happened has happened. We just have to look forward and give our all.

“Obviously it’s difficult. No matter what club you’re in, this situation has happened. Obviously, a manager goes and we have to reset again. For us, it’s just focusing on what we have. It’s another five finals. Four in the Premier League and obviously a final here. But for us, it’s five finals. We have to go in there with the quality and hunger that we can show.

“Obviously, no matter what manager goes, it’s difficult. Obviously, you spend time with them. You work with them daily, every day. You have to adapt. You’ve got to reset again. 

“For us, we can use that excuse. But at the end of the day, we’ve got to look at ourselves as players and obviously take responsibility. At the end of the season, we have no other excuse. We just have to go out there and try and win all our games.”
