Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has received a one-match touchline ban and an £8,000 fine following his dismissal during Chelsea’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Liverpool earlier this month, BBC Sport reports.

The Italian was shown a second yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor after charging out of his technical area to celebrate Estevao Willian’s 95th-minute winner against the reigning Premier League champions. Earlier in the match, Maresca had been cautioned for dissent, meaning his exuberant celebration earned him a red card deep into stoppage time.

In a statement, the Football Association confirmed that Maresca had admitted the charge of improper conduct and accepted the standard penalty. “It was alleged that the manager acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour,” the FA said.

The ban means Maresca will be absent from the touchline when Chelsea face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday, with assistant coach Willy Caballero set to take charge in his place.

This marks Maresca’s second touchline suspension since taking over at Stamford Bridge in June 2024. The 45-year-old also served a one-match ban last season after celebrating Pedro Neto’s late winner at Fulham.
