Xabi Alonso has taken the Chelsea job, and it’s been assumed that one of his conditions for doing so will have been some say in the club’s transfers.
There are some deals he won’t have much say in – those which are already done, including the arrival of Sporting winger Geovany Quenda, which was agreed a year ago.
The 19 year old said goodbye to his boyhood club this weekend, and his. next step is a long awaited £40m move to Chelsea.
Sources close to the player are hoping that Estevao’s injury and Pedro Neto’s participation at the World Cup will give him a chance to impress Alonso early in preseason. Chelsea “are understood to have enormous hopes for Quenda,” according to Bobby Vincent’s piece for Football.London.
They think he can make an “impression in the first team right away,” and given how many players will be resting after the World Cup, he certainly will have the chance. How he fares when the likes of Estevao and Neto are all back is another question.
Calum McFarlane has claimed that Chelsea aren’t far off the likes of Man City, despite the gap in performances and points.
Levi Colwill’s performance was another talking point from the game, and McFarlane spoke about the defender in glowing terms.
