Chelsea’s two top rated players this season are also their best against Man U | OneFootball

A look at Chelsea’s top rated players for this season on stats site FotMob shows that there are two Blues ahead of the pack.

After a shaky start, with 2 wins from 6 games so far, it’s no surprise that defensively minded players are in the lead, given we’re simply not performing in attack.

Trevoh Chalobah is the top of the pile with an average rating of 7.83, while Moises Caicedo is a close second on 7.8.

The pair extended their lead on Saturday, when they were once again our best rated players. Chalobah got an impressive 7.9, while Caicedo was given a 7.3.

Chalobah and his fellow defenders were very fairly criticised for both Man U goals, but the rest of his performance was excellent. As well as scoring his team’s only goal, he made 10 defensive contributions in the game. He won 3 of his team’s 4 aerial duels and 4 of their 6 ground duels.

In a game totally changed by Robert Sanchez’s early red card, Chalobah was asked to do a lot more in possession too. His 6 completed long balls helped the team get forward.

With Wesley Fofana still finding his feet alongside him after a long injury, the academy kid did well. We expect the same combination next week when we take on Brighton, barring any injuries.

Caicedo gets stuck in as Chelsea struggle with 10

Caicedo is a duel machine, we know that. He competed in more than any other player on the pitch against United, winning 8 on the ground. He had the most tackles (5), the most interceptions (3) and the most recoveries (7) of anyone on the pitch. His total of 15 defensive contributions was more than anyone else.

This team are struggling so far this season – but at least these two are doing their part.
