Chloe Kelly suffers knee injury against Ghana

Arsenal winger Chloe Kelly appeared to suffer a knee injury less than 20 minutes into the game at St Mary’s in Southampton.

She instantly clutched her right knee after an attempted cross that was blocked.

Kelly initially tried to play on, but after playing a short pass, she went to the ground and was treated by the Lionesses’ medical staff.

She was able to limp off the pitch as she was replaced by Beth Mead. The fact that she was able to limp off will give Arsenal some hope that the injury is not too serious, though it makes her a doubt for their upcoming games.

England boss Sarina Wiegman said after the game: “She felt something with her knee that didn’t feel right.

“She could walk but it just didn’t feel right. For her, it’s sad because she had a start and she was playing and then had to go off.

“Of course, you want to be available at all times and you don’t want to have those niggles, but that’s just the way it is.

“What she has to sort out is: What is it? And just assess that and try to get back as soon as possible and get consistency.”

Arsenal await update on Kelly after injury

Arsenal are now awaiting an update on Kelly and hope she won’t be out of action for too long.

The Gunners are back in action on Saturday, when they face winless Liverpool at noon.

Arsenal are fourth in the WSL and will be hoping to make up some ground before the winter break, which for Renee Slegers’ side starts after their Women’s League Cup quarter-final with Crystal Palace on December 21st.

The Gunners face important Champions League clashes with Twente and OH Leuven as they look to at least book a spot in the playoffs to make the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, with January approaching, some attention will turn to the January transfer window, especially after a mixed start to the campaign.

USA defender Jenna Nighswonger could leave the club in January after just one year at the club. She arrived at Arsenal last January but has found game time limited.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Swedish full-back Smilla Holmberg.
