Chris Burke has joined Brentford B as assistant coach.

Burke arrives having held roles as Kilmarnock’s Under-19s head coach and the club's head of development.

The former midfielder came through Rangers’ academy, going on to make 131 appearances - eight of which were in the Champions League - and scoring 14 goals.

He then moved to England and spent the bulk of his playing days in the EFL, first with Cardiff City, before a three-season spell at Birmingham City.

He joined Nottingham Forest in 2014 and had a short loan at Rotherham United, before returning to Scotland with Ross County. He transferred to Kilmarnock in 2017, where he ended his playing career after five years at Killie.

Burke also made seven caps for Scotland, scoring two goals for his country.

Burke makes the move to west London following a coaching spell at his former club Kilmarnock, where he worked across the club’s U18s and U19s age groups, before gaining experience with their first team, and was then later appointed head of development.

He also served as assistant coach to Brentford first-team coach Neil MacFarlane with Scotland Under-19s last season.

On the appointment, Brentford interim academy director Jamie Greenwood said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Chris to the club following a thorough recruitment process.

“Chris brings valuable coaching experience at both club and international level, alongside a strong professional playing background, which we believe will add real value to our B-team environment.

“He has a clear understanding of player development and the demands of the pathway, and we’re confident he will play an important role in supporting our young players as they continue their transition towards first-team football.”
