The Blues forward has been involved in recent off-pitch controversy

Birmingham City's season is all-but over in terms of what Chris Davies' side can achieve on the pitch, but they will certainly be hoping to build up ahead of steam heading into the 2026/27 campaign.

Last time out, Blues registered their first victory in over a month as they defeated play-off chasing Wrexham 2-0 at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

It was a welcome three points for Davies, who had previously begun to feel the heat once again over his position as manager, amid reports that director of football, Craig Gardner, is under similar pressure in B9 after the club's overall underperformance when taking its hefty investment into the playing squad and both short and long-term ambitions into account.

Last season's record-breaking League One champions currently sit 15th with four matches to play, and the maximum number of points they can accrue between now and the end of the campaign on May 2nd is 68.

That is the total which Hull City currently sit on, as the Tigers find themselves sixth in the Championship after being the division's main overachievers under Sergej Jakirovic.

Therefore, after downing the Red Dragons in the West Midlands last time out, Blues could, ironically, do them a favour if they were to hand the Tigers a third defeat in six games at the MKM Stadium, and one man in particular will hope he gets the chance to silence his critics in more ways than one.

Chris Davies reveals Marvin Ducksch selection stance ahead of Hull City v Birmingham City

Marvin Ducksch has found himself in the headlines plenty of times this season since his £1.75m switch from Werder Bremen in August, but the latest news surrounding the 32-year-old were extremely controversial.

Indeed, the German forward had been omitted from Blues' matchday squad against Wrexham due to an "internal matter," and he was charged in midweek with the offence of drink-driving and causing a three-vehicle collision near Henley-in-Arden on Easter Monday, after which he was arrested.

Blues' training ground is based in the aforementioned location, and the offence was also committed at 10:30PM, hours after he played nine minutes as a substitute against Ipswich Town in the narrow 2-1 defeat at Portman Road.

Unsurprisingly, the news has generated plenty of fan backlash towards the forward, who is currently the club's top scorer with 10 goals in 32 Championship appearances.

However, in his pre-match press conference, Davies revealed that Ducksch would be available for selection ahead of the trip to East Yorkshire.

“The club obviously made a statement and Marvin has apologised publicly for what happened,” said the Blues boss. “He’s apologised privately to me and the players, to the staff. He’s taken full responsibility for what happened.

“From there he’s re-joined training sessions this week. There’s been consequences internally for what happened and that’s all something that he’s accepted.

“He’s re-joined training and is available for selection. We move on from there.”

Marvin Ducksch's Birmingham City future is still up for debate after drink-driving offence

Given his misdemeanours, it remains to be seen what reception Ducksch will receive from the sold-out away end at the MKM Stadium this weekend, if he is to play any part in the match.

Regardless, though, the striker's future will still be up for debate, particularly after it was reported in March that he was attracting interest from clubs across Europe and the MLS - namely Greek Super League and La Liga outfits, AEK Athens and Real Sociedad.

Meanwhile, now the matter has been strongly addressed, Davies' full focus will be on gaining revenge on Hull, who became the first team to inflict a league home defeat on him as Blues boss back in October, in what was a thrilling encounter that the visitors won three goals to two.
