Blues are looking to improve their squad ahead of the upcoming Championship season
Although the summer transfer window has officially been open for just short of one month now, it is fair to say that the early weeks in which clubs have been able to do business have been a slow burner for many Championship clubs.
That includes Birmingham City, who will hope to continue improving the squad at Chris Davies' disposal by the time the competitive campaign gets off and running with successive away trips to Swansea City and Sheffield United - the former of which comes in the EFL Cup first round.
Throughout the three years in which Birmingham have been owned by American investment group, Knighthead Capital Management, they have certainly flexed their muscles in the transfer market on several occasions, even though it has ended up yielding mixed results in terms of success.
Davies is currently in the thick of overseeing his third pre-season at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park and a fifth transfer window thus far after being appointed by Tom Wagner two summers ago, with the 41-year-old and his squad currently based in Lagos, Portugal for a week's long training camp before returning to England to round off their preparations with a host of domestic friendlies and a high-profile fixture against La Liga champions, FC Barcelona.
However, speaking to the club's official channels, in an in-depth interview discussing his plans for 2026/27, Davies was able to drop a new update on how the transfer market is looking so far from the club's perspective.

Plenty of intrigue surrounded how the club's transfer plans would look after it was confirmed that, last month, director of football, Craig Gardner, had stepped down from his role, having assisted Davies with acquiring new players in B9.
Indeed, throughout the period in which the duo worked alongside each other, Blues have smashed their transfer record by parting with in excess of £15m to sign Jay Stansfield from Fulham in August 2024, whilst two major squad reshuffles were also conducted last summer and earlier this year respectively.
So far this summer, Jhon Solis has seen his initial loan move from Girona FC turned permanent through a £6m option-to-buy clause after impressing in just 18 prior appearances, while Dael Fry's lengthy stint with Middlesbrough came to an end, allowing Birmingham to sign the 28-year-old on a free transfer.
When asked about the current outlook of the transfer window, Davies said: "There's a little bit of frustration in the sense that you always want to get players in as quickly as possible.
"Obviously, the World Cup, I think, can just delay things a little bit with the knock-on effect.
"But we want to improve our squad, that's fair to say," he added.
"Every transfer window you need to come out of it stronger than when you went in, and we've still got work to do to make that happen.
"A lot of work is going on behind-the-scenes. I'm pretty clear on what we need to do," Davies claimed.
"We definitely want to improve the speed, strength, size and power of the team. I think that's going to be important for us to be a more effective team.
"(And) Championship experience is really, really important," the Blues boss continued.
"But, if they're the right player, like Solis or (Carlos) Vicente, who's done well since he came in as an example, they don't necessarily need that.
"But, we need to make sure they're the right player."

Later in his discussions, Davies also reiterated his belief that a large portion of the squad could be better served by a season's worth of games in the Championship last term after prior criticism came the hierarchy's way over a lack of signings with experience and knowhow of the division.
However, it is hard to argue that the two signings made thus far have got the club off on the right track in terms of incomings, even if the lack of movement in the market has caused frustration.
That said, there is still just under two months until the window shuts, and Davies will know that he, and supporters, may still have to be patient when it comes to signing players who fit the bill in terms of the attributes which he listed off.
