Bundesliga referee Christian Dingert acknowledged an error in sending off Bayern Munich’s Luis Diaz for a second booking late against Bayer Leverkusen.
According to Get German Football News, Dingert reviewed the 84th-minute incident after full time and accepted it was not a penalty, adding that the yellow for simulation that led to the dismissal was too harsh.
Earlier, Bayern were already down a man after Nicolas Jackson, on loan from Chelsea, received two yellows in the 42nd minute. Diaz then went to ground in the area under pressure from Leverkusen goalkeeper Janis Blaswich, with replays showing contact, though Dingert disliked the manner of the fall.
Having seen the footage, he said he would not make the same call now and stressed that Diaz had not actively dived. Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany voiced strong dissatisfaction with the decision.
Bayern chief personnel executive Max Eberl described Dingert’s admission as honourable, adding that Diaz neither appealed for a penalty nor stayed down, instead getting up quickly.
