Christian Eriksen collapsed during Denmark’s friendly with Ukraine in Odense, and the match was abandoned.

In the 65th minute he clutched his chest then fell to the turf. The referee immediately called for medical assistance, and he received treatment on the pitch. The Danish federation said he was conscious and relatively well in the circumstances.

Team-mates and opponents formed a shield as the 34-year-old Wolfsburg midfielder was attended to.

He was then carried from the field on a stretcher.

The incident echoed Euro 2021, when he suffered a cardiac arrest against Finland. He resumed his career the following year after having a pacemaker fitted.
