Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has delivered his reaction as he officially joins VfL Wolfsburg.
Eriksen had been on the hunt for a new club since United released him at the end of last season. His contract expired and the club made the decision not to offer him fresh terms.
His United exit was confirmed on the final day of the Premier League season, which saw the Red Devils beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Old Trafford.
Eriksen scored on that occasion, in what his final appearance for United. He converted from the spot-kick after Bruno Fernandes selflessly allowed him to take the penalty.
The Dane turned out for United 107 times, scoring eight times in that period. He helped the club win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Eriksen and Wolfsburg had reached an agreement over a transfer and now, the Bundesliga outfit have confirmed the news.
Wolfsburg have announced that Eriksen has put pen to paper on a two-year contract running until 2027. He will wear the number 24 shirt.
Eriksen stated, “VfL Wolfsburg is my first club in the Bundesliga – I’m really looking forward to this new adventure.”
“I’m convinced we can achieve something together at Wolfsburg. The talks with the club bosses went very well. I immediately sensed that Paul Simonis has a clear vision for the team and for me personally.”
“The fact that there are several familiar faces in the squad from the Danish national team makes VfL a particularly attractive proposition for me.”
Wolfsburg sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz remarked, “In Christian Eriksen, we’re getting a player who has seen and experienced everything at the highest level. His enormous experience, his quality on the pitch and his personality will be a valuable boost to our young players in particular.”
“We’ve deliberately made structural changes this summer and signed several talented youngsters with great potential.”
“Christian will complement our experienced captain, Max Arnold, perfectly. He’s a true leader who can make a difference on and off the pitch.”
Wolfsburg face Koln on Saturday.
