Christian Fuchs has left Newport County after seven months in charge, nearly two months after keeping the club in the English Football League.

"You know what was crazy, when I gave an interview at Barrow on the pitch, I wasn’t aware of it [at the time], it was May 2 and that was also when we became Premier League champions," he told LeicestershireLive in May.

Appointed in November with the League Two side bottom of the table, he kept the Exiles up on the final day with a 2-1 win at Barrow, then departed on the eve of pre-season.

"Exactly 10 years later we got this success with Newport to stay in the league. It spins a whole circle around the amazing success of 2016 and then for me, that feeling when you’re on that pitch to secure League Two status and celebrate with the fans, the feeling is very similar [to 2016]."

He oversaw 30 matches, recording wins over Tranmere, Barnet, Shrewsbury, Harrogate Town and Oldham Athletic, results that meant a final-day victory at relegation rivals Barrow would secure safety.

The club thanked Fuchs for his work, commitment and professionalism, and wished him success for the future.

It is not yet clear what comes next for the former Leicester City favourite.
