RB Leipzig midfielder Christoph Baumgartner suffered an injury during the warm-up before Austria’s only pre-World Cup friendly against Tunisia on Monday, putting his availability for the start of the tournament in doubt.

He had been due to start but was withdrawn after discomfort, and Austria went on to win 1-0. After the match, head coach Ralf Rangnick said it did not look promising for the midfielder, according to Krone Zeitung.

Rangnick told Sky they would have to wait until tomorrow to learn how serious the problem is, expressing hope it is not severe. He added the pain came when taking a shot and seemed to involve the hip flexor area.

There was a second scare as defensive leader David Alaba was taken off at half-time after feeling slight muscle tightness.

Both Baumgartner and Alaba have around two weeks to recover before Austria open their World Cup campaign against Jordan on June 17.
